On AM DX, I'm finding that the HD hash is making a noisy mess. Here in the Ma, I was able to pull in WLW Cincinatti every night for years so clearly on my CC Radio, it was as if *were a local station. For the last two years or so, I'm just getting a hash sound, unless atmospheric conditions are perfect. On my restored tube radios, I use a Select A Tenna. I have that one also, the passive loop? *Tried that with my boatanchors, HQ-145XC, and HE-30 and it produced zilch! *Only the long wire works with them. *The Select *A Tenna works well with the CCrane, and with my old Knight StarRoamer. Barfry F. Have you noticed that hash sound more and more? Around 1977 I was staying with my Grandmother in Hallandale Florida, I picked up WBZ Boston.I was using a Lafayette Gaurdian 7000, that got in 1973. That radio is still playing like it did when it was new. I use it everyday. My hobby is restoring vintage tube radios. I adore tube radios, I have 1946 Zenith 6D029 playing in the kitchen right now. I use the Select A Tenna as a way to null the inference from the under the counter halogen lights. I mentioned in a previous post that my gave me an all leather and wood Roberts Revival Radio. Very expensive. I planned to concoct an excuse to send it back, after I took it out the box, I fell in love with it. Usually I have no interest in anything repro, this radio picks up everything! It has a continuously back lighted dial even when its on batteries. To me it all the qualities of a vintage radio. It really stands on its own.My wife got it from Crane. She saw me eyeing it in the catalog. Its a great DX'ng radio. Barry F. |
