Here is my take on this common abbreviation: World Trade Fiasco. It
occurs when the most advanced countries in the world think it is
possible to compete with the developing or more often totally
undeveloped nations or have them as business partners! The results
are obvious-we now have so many people without any hope for the future
like never before. And this is a fertile ground for maniacs that join
the so-called 'tea-parties' or some other even more radical
'grassroot' movements...

IOW, we've (the United States, that is) become a third-world nation?

In the words of the immortal George Bailey, "I wouldn't be a bit
surprised..."

OTOH, it seems we're still a bit better off than North Korea.
