No Brenda. Sorry, should have stated it differently. The money has
become so worthless, a $20 dollar bill will NO LONGER buy $20 dollars of
gold ... it takes ~$1,400 of the worthless bill to do so ... but, the
$20 bucks of gold will still buy what it did in 1849 ... the dollars
won't ... of course ...

An ounce of gold today, when the price is adjusted for inflation, is
worth less than it was in the 1970s. As for the rest, it's the
survivalist's day-dream. By the way, when you're starving you can't
eat gold. One old Vietnamese told of how it was in '54 when he was
following the trails and roads south to run away from the Communists.
At the low point in the trip, rice was traded for equal weight in
gold. He only survived because he had a enough body fat to keep him
going. Others simply died on the road.

No, money is money. The rest of your list are commodities or real
estate or just things. The entire world is structured around the
acceptance of money. That's not going to change. All the people with
power require it, and, of course, all the economies of organized
countries operate with money. Treasury notes (the cash in your pocket)
is money, as are Treasury bonds and bills. To a lesser extent banker's
acceptances and commercial paper are a form of money, too. The world
has been operating very well on this basis since the 1940s.

When you are looking for a place to keep money for awhile, gold is it.
Bury paper dollars and it just don't work. People who live
paycheck-to-paycheck just don't get the concept. They have never had
wealth and are not familiar with the problems of storing it, safely, for
any extended length of time.

Trust me, there has never been a time when gold is difficult to trade
for food, shelter, weapons, ammo, sex, you-name-it. I think these boys
have been smokin' too much dope or lived in poverty too long!

Check history if you doubt me ... today, even, it is a great commodity
to possess ... trade it for near anything you can imagine!

JS

Not in a total blockade, like happened in Biafra,Leningrad and many
other times during military conflicts . Food runs out pretty
quickly, sometimes within a few weeks . Singapore officially fell in
WW2 due to water supply cutoff, and they had lots of food and ammo.

West Berlin was blockaded by the USSR to try to cause a collapse so the
USSR could have all of eastern Germany.

The USA had to do to extremes to keep is from happening.

You forgot something, didn't you? *Something important?

What did those without the weight of gold to trade for rice eat? *Shoe
leather?

- But that is what I am talking about.
- If it gets that bad, make sure you

JS - With One Ounce of Gold going for $1300

Cheaper and simpler would be to have enough
20~50 Lb Bags Rice put away to feed four for
Six Months.

Or simply to Store some Heartland Emergency
Food {Freeze Dried}
http://www.heartlandemergency.com/

Have a Home "Larder" with a Weeks, a Months,
3-Months, 6-Months, a Years Supply of Food
for a Family of Four to Eat and Live-On.

None of the above is any good without Water
and having a Safe Water Supply for your
Family that is Independent from the Public
Water Supply : Well, Pond and/or Lake and
the means to ensure that it is Safe to Drink
-both- Filtered and Treated for Drinking and
Cooking; and the ability to do this for a Year.

Plus the Ability to Protect Yourself and your
Family for a Year and Hunt for Food for a Year :
An old 30-30 Winchester with 1000 Rounds
of Ammo will go along way to accomplish both.
