Not many years ago when I was listening to one of my CB Radios, I heard
an 18 wheeler truck driver guy (he was about a mile or two West of me on
I-20 heading West) say he had just got through with talking to a guy in
New Zealand on his CB Radio. That was at night time.

If I lived in Twain Hart, with a 1/2 wave in a pine tree, 100w, I'd even
hit Australia better than I am doin'. Could probably hit the valley
floor like a local ...

Just a thought ...

There are still quite a few Hams in the Sierra Foothills and
still a lot of Pick-Up Trucks with CB Antennas in the land
where Cellphone Towers are few and far between.

Often the number of Hams doubles on the Weekends
and a lot of Moto-Bike Riders still use CBs on their
'Rides' through the Motherlode and Sierras.

-note- 'i' do not have either a Ham Rig or a CB.
-cause- 'i' am just a simple shortwave listener
