Well, if RFPI's annual budget were spent eliminating poverty, perhaps it
might be for the best.

Make no mistake - I like RFPI but I sure don't think they are irreplacable.

What terrors might the University for Peace commit after RFPI is eliminated?

Become the Central American Headquarters for Bob Jones University?

I won't know until Noam Chomsky's next endless lecture.

Chomsky was very informative in the 1950's. That was before he stopped
thinking, of course.

This situation certainly does not look good for RFPI. I don¹t understand
their argument about free speech being a reason for them to stay. The
problem is property usage. They are there under a lease agreement with
the University of Costa Rica and the current administration wants that
lease to end. They will have to go.

I heard RFPI's update on the situation. James Latham is still using the
"censorship" claim without any evidence, presumably even after he's had time
to cool off. Censorship? How is this different from an everyday eviction
in which the tenant hasn't paid the rent, or is a pain in the ass or the
property owner simply has different plans for the property?

He wants us to send him money for lawyers. I suppose contributors would be
interested in the facts of the dispute, even if it's only from one side.

They did list the wonderful achievements and trivia of RFPI. Mostly it was
a reading of when particular programs were first broadcast. Perhaps their
lawyers will come up with a more convincing case before the court date.

But that assumes the people working for RFPI have other marketable skills.

All the shows could be now be carried by the US domestic SW broadcasters.
As long as they can find somebody to pay. I don't think the amount of money
is huge.

Oh, my. James Latham didn't mention that.

Noam Chomsky has gone beyond the need to think. He's figured it all out.
Now there's nothing left but the explaining.

Considering their political leaning I'm shocked that the very fashionable

I suppose it would be imprudent to expend their entire arsenal of
unsubstantiated charges all at once. And let's not forget that James Latham
has the unfortunate status of being a straight, white male.

Go Go Costa Ricans! Throw those whiny marxist anachronisms out on their
fat white butts and load em onto the next flight to San Francisco! Then
we can have Ashcroft declare them to be enemy combatants and take them
away...

Well, I'd miss RFPI if they went dark. I have a different point of view
than most of their programming and I find some of it silly. but they do
consider things which are worth considering. And I'm sure their volunteers
show more idealism and self-sacrifice than I do for the things I belive in.

Not to mention that they put out the best signal from Central America.

Sounds like that new University landlord has a bug up hiz anal orifice.
NorCali, from the Bay Area to the Sutter Buttes, has undergone a similar crisis
since May 1, when Grass Valley's KNCO moved from 94.3 Mhz to 94.1 Mhz(to make
room for Jackson's KNGT), effectively blanketing KPFA's once powerful
progressive beacon. Through efforts of our local KPFA listener's club, KPFA can
now be heard on Sacramento cable f.m. But long-time liberals, who were used to
KPFA's booming signal over their car radios, now have to settle for "Star 94"
80s & 90s hits instead. KNCO's general manager promised to change their
antenna's pattern to minimise interference. But KNCO is authorized
omni-directional. So his promises came across as hollow at best(he said the
revised radiation patterns weakened their target area's signal). It's amazing
how far their 660 watt signal traverses(KPFA is 59 kilowatts, and used to be
heard as far away as Oroville, 120 miles north-east of Berkeley). There have
been reports of east bay KPFA listeners swamped by KNCO's signal. A KPFA
Listener's Advisory Board member, who lives in Winters (35 miles south-west of
Berkeley, and 70 miles west of Grass Valley), is drowned out by KNCO's signal
(which is authorized for the western Sierra Nevada's only)! Shrub's on the run,
like pigs from a gun(see how he snides), and progressive's want their radio
fare! Be it R.F.P.I. or KPFA!

I don't like to see any radio station being closed, but quite honestly
I won't miss RFPI all that much. It was good to listen to when I
wanted to hear the socialist spin on world events, but quite honestly
their constant US bashing and open hostility toward conservative
politics got old real fast. Sometimes I couldn't tell if I was
listening to RFPI or Radio Havana before getting a station
identification. I have nothing against free speech, but there is
only so much left wing propaganda I can take.
