What I did when I lived in a rooming house for a while was to get some
Radio Shack speaker wire-30 feet should be sufficient-and a big roll of
duct tape. I duct taped the wire to the ceiling running NW-SE (I was
interested in Middle Eastern stations at the time). I had to put
reinforcement tape on like so:

so that the tape wouldn't come undone. The middle tape holds the antenna
up and the tape on either side reinforces the middle. It worked pretty
well.
