It has a handle, runs on batteries or AC and is considerably smaller/lighter than the Grundig Sat-800, which is also considered a portable. The current price for a used SW8 (late model) is about $500. www.dxing.com/rx/sw8.htm says that it's around $400, & it's been offered here for less than that. It also has a high enough build quality to carry around by the handle or in its canvas carrying pack. While the Sat-800 may have the same electronics (why some like it), its build quality is too poor to carry it around (and if you did, they only viable way to do so, is to perch it on your shoulder like a ghetto blaster) and too poor for mobile/marine use. It only excels for tabletop use. |
