Thanks, but as you can see, ALL of the 2001D photos you posted have the
USB/LSB buttons, unlike the one I've managed to purchase. :-(

Thanks. I've certainly seen many models without the Air band, and
that doesn't bother me much, but none without the USB/LSB buttons, so
I didn't really look for that when bidding on the auction. My fault,
I guess.

Thanks for any info.

There are at least 6 versions of the ICF-2001D/2010 with different
frequency coverages and inclusion/exclusion of SSB. Clearly you
have bought a version without certain features, quite possibly one
designed for use in part of the Middle East.

Versions of the radio with Airband coverage have a small additional
PCB, which makes the addition of this capability almost impossible.
If you find that you do not have the full LW/SW/FM frequency
coverage then this can be restored by removing or adding (I am not
sure which) solder bridges on one of the printed circuit boards.

If you are brave, then it might be possible to modify the case and
two buttons for USB and LSB. You need to start by getting a
service manual. I recall reading somewhere that somebody had done
this but I cannot find the details. You would need to do a lot of
investigating first.

Finally I suggest joining the icf2010 group at Yahoo groups, and

MR,

Technically: you are right, You Are Right. YOU ARE RIGHT !

So you may have the only Sony ICF-2001D (Without "SSB" Selector
Buttons) that 'exists' in North America.

But at least for now a Photo/Image of the Sony ICF-2001D (Without
"SSB" Selector Buttons) does 'exist' on the WWW for a several days.

where, Where. WHERE !

There are about 4 different versions of the 2001D/2010, all are
covered in the Same Sony Service Manual. If it doesn't support SSB, it
is the Saudi Model, which also won't have an operating air band, and
has some holes in the coverage from 1-30Mhz in some strange places.

The variations all involves features and "holes", and in general, if
you have the service manaual, you can re-enable the missing features
by installing/removing the jumpers that control them.

So while all 2001D's are not necessarily the same as a US 2010 model,
all CAN be made the same.....

No, what happpened to me was entirely my fault. I knew that there were
2001D's out there without the Air band, but I didn't know that there were
versions without USB/LSB. All the seller did was say it was a 2001D in
excellent condition, and posted an accurate photo that showed the lack of
Air band button and the missing USB/LSB buttons. If I looked carefully I
would have asked questions BEFORE I bid.

What you got was the version for Saudi Arabia, it lacks SSB, Air Band,
and also has some holes in the HF coverage as well. If you can find
(or purchase), the 2001D/2010 service manual, you can get those
features back. They have been disable by installation or, by removal
of jumpers.

He said it doesn't have the USB/LSB buttons, so even if he does restore
the jumpers, how can he get SSB?
