well, since I almost never buy anything new I don't care about warranties and

it is really hard to carry computer speakers to the back yard

A few comments..................
First, this will void the factory warranty, so be sure your warranty
has expired before making any modifications. Second, the 600/650 had
a 15 watt amp (30 watts peak) as I recall, and the 800 only a 2 watt
amp. I opted to add my "old" computer speakers to my 800 as external
speakers giving me an Altec Lansing self-powered 8-inch woofer and two
small stereo speakers. Outstanding bass and no modification. Superior
sound compared to the 600/650. I, too, was a little disappointed in
the cheap speaker used in the 800.
