Default Good reading and newbie

Hello to all. I am new to shortwave radio and just recently purchased a Sony
7600GR. I have been enjoying listening to BBC and many other stations and
hearing the news from a different perspective. Now here are a couple areas
that I have been thinking about.

1. I am really interseted in the ATS909 due to the amount of memory
locations that it has. For use at home where I plan to install some kind of
antenna in the attic, would this be a better radio.

2. What kind of antenna would anybody recommend for installation in a attic.
I do not want to spend a whole lot, but can get almost any kind of wire for
next to nothing. I live in a condo that does not allow anything outside, but
my floor plan is 1900 sq ft on a single floor and is very long in the attic
for installing an antenna.

Thank you for any information or insight you can provide.

Those two radios are compared at
http://www.radiointel.com/portwars.htm

The same website also has extenisve discussions of all sorts of shortwave topics.

Enjoy.

You will be very happy with your ATS-909 on an external antenna. The
general consensus is that the Sony is much more sensitive "off the whip."
However, when you attach the ATS-909 to the external antenna, the
sensitivity issue is gone, and the features of the 909 (signal strength
meter, 3 times the memories, and a tuning knob (not buttons) make it a
great radio.

If you don't mind spending a bit more for your ATS-909, you can buy one with
some excellent mods already installed (he http://www.radiolabs.com/ )
that will send your Sony to Ebay if it really performs as advertised. I'd
really like to hear a review of the "Super ATS-909."

PS -- You might want to go ahead and install your antenna to use with the
Sony. You may find that you'll be able to hear everything you want with
your current radio. RHF's always telling us the antenna is 55 percent of
the equation.

Try an antenna with the Sony and u may find it is all you need in a
radio depending on what your listening targets are.

You can have a look at the AMANDX site below for some simple antenna
ideas that u may find useful
