I posted in here many moons ago about finally being able to mod my DX398 (which I still have), but enough of that :-) I recently moved from the east coast to Colorado Springs and noticed a dramatic decrease in my reception abilities (probably due to this huge mountain range outside of my window). I decided (along with a local friend) to start a Yahoo group for Colorado Springs DXers (MW and SW). If you're in the area, and want to join/help us solve out reception "issues" then it's right here... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/COS_DXers/ Thanks for looking. Eric W. Hi Eric, I live in the Springs, used a DX398 for a year, and bought one of the early Sat800s when they first came out -- fine receiver which I still use everyday. After much antenna experimentation and an AD Sloper, I find best reception from a 400' loop of #14 single strand strung in a fenceline of trees surrounding the house at a height of 15', and 50' of good coax to lead in from a good distance from the house. I live in the downtown area. I use an MFJ959b tuner for antenna/receiver matching which provides a 2+ S-unit improvement, and occasional amplification.. Also I power the receiver from a battery charged by a solar panel. This combination works well for me. Good luck! Bruce Ball |
