Radio Shack DX-400
I just bought a DX-400 at a garage sale for 5 bucks. It works great, except
that the LCD display is a little cloudy and the carrying handle is broken. It has 300-Ohm antenna terminals in the back, an S meter, antenna trimmer, keypad, 3-position RF gain control and many other sophisticated features. Does anyone know anything about this radio? Is this a Sangean radio or one made especially for Radio Shack? Bob Staggs |

I bought one of those back in 1985, the original from Tandy in UK
Its same as the Uniden 2021 i think and the Sangean440, number unsure. I think they were made for RS You have a great bargain there, there are quite a sensitive receiver, i used for many years for MW DX from the Uk and logged dozens of US/Canadian MW stations Regds Andy-Blackpool/UK |

Other than re arranged knobs and an analog S meter it is identical to the
Uniden CR2012 The DX 440 was made by Sangean for RS and was only missing the DIN for recording that the Sangean ATS803A had. D. Marrold Bent "AMWalmsley" wrote in message ... Is this a Sangean radio or one made especially for Radio Shack? Bob Staggs It was made by Uniden. Same as their CR-2021. It was one of the best portables of the 80's. It has a triple conversion design. It was based (loosely) on the Sony-2001 (not the 2001-D) which was the first fully digital shortwave portable. Is the LCD display on your DX-400 "cloudy" because the clear plastic window has a lot of scratches or is there a problem with the display itself? -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

The "cloudiness" appears to be within the display itself. Sort of like
streaks of pigmentation. The frequencies can be read, fortunately. Wow! Triple conversion - this is incredible. Now I'm really fascinated with this radio.
