Default Sangean PT-80

I found an eBay auction for the Sangean PT-80. I almost bought one for his
"buy it now" price of $147 + shipping (6.50) + insurance ($2). That would be
cheaper than Universal Radio who lists it at $159 + shipping. Is there any
reason not to buy it now for this price? The seller has nothing but good
reviews. Do you think the radio will soon be cheaper than this? Should I
wait for some reviews? Will early models of this radio contain flaws? I'm
confused.

Oh, here's the eBay link:

I'd definitely wait for some reviews.

I Agree..
- Unless you've got $$ burning a hole in yer pocket,
wait for a review or 2;
- and a comparison to another well known set.

Not quite sure about the performance to be expected from the thing. In
terms of features, it appears related to the ATS-505 (no selectable
sideband, hmm), so I would expect prices to come down a bit in the next
few months. Anyway, with noone buying it we won't get any reviews either
.

I can wait a bit longer on the PT-80. Right now, I've got a Degen 1102 on
order from lipyn. I paid $49.50 + $19 shipping through eBay. He said he
shipped it last Tuesday, so I might get it this Friday or Saturday. I've
really got my hopes up for it, but if it doesn't work out, then I was going
to give it to a friend and order one of the PT-80s. Hopefully somebody will
get one of them soon and give us some reviews about it!!!

You might get the 1102 today. I got mine in 7 days, as have others.
Best $68.50 you ever spent. You'll love it : )

Hi Sanjaya;

- How well does the Tone switch on the Degen 1102 work?
have you tried it with with Shortwave, and can you use it to enhance staticy
transmissions ?

Well... there's not a tremendous difference in news/music
using the switch. Earbuds clear up some noise and hiss though.
The radio is sensitive and selective (PLL, dual conversion).
But it's small compared to the YB400 and ATS-505 so
speaker sound is not up to the quality of those. But it's more
that adequate, and better than the YB300's sound from speaker.
However, I'm basing my comments on value for dollars spent.
SSB, dual conversion, full SW coverage, fair to good MW DX,
good FM with stereo from headphones,
batteries recharge in the radio, compact enough to get in a big
pocket (or in saki's case, her purse).
It looks good too (I have the silver one), has a nice solid feel... and don't forget
the cool blue backlight which illuminates the number pad
as well as the display.
$68.50 delivered... in my book you can't beat that.

You're welcome Dan.
If you haven't done so, read the
radiointel.com review of the DE1102.
I decided to buy it after reading that and
seeing that I could have it in 7 to 10 days
for a total cost of $68.50
I realize I've mentioned the Liypn price
a number of times in this and other threads,
but gosh... I think that's a fantastic deal on
such a good product.
