because I've seen so many other countries and remain convinced
that this is the best one on the face of the Earth, so I have to wonder,
what's the solution? I don't believe it's big government, because
for all of the money we throw at schools, things just seem to get
worse.

I harken back to the days of yore when most families had one
parent at home - usually the Mom - and the kids had someone to
*talk* to. My wife points out that, 'way back in the Twenties,
convenience foods like peanut butter and cheese spread were
created, she believes, so that kids could look after themselves
while Mom and Dad went out for multiple serial nights on the town,
so I don't know if I'd argue for going back to the "good old days."
