Default Audio processing from line-in using Linux

If there are any Linux users here, do any of you pipe your receiver
into the line in jack of your sound card and process it using software
in Linux? I am trying to avoid days of searching and work if there
might already be a method in use by someone else.

Thanks,
-Al A.
