The way I remember it, it wasn't a "secret" frequency, it was the WA3NAN
rebroadcast of NASA's audio feed. The alien spacecraft reference doesn't
appear
in the original version, so presumably somebody was jamming WA3NAN.

I don't know. I'm just 'quoting' literally- what it said on the VHS tape.
