Curious to see how far some of the local (NYC) 50 kilowatt mw

stations can
be heard with regularity and/or if they have been heard very far

away from
time to time...

Anyone outside the area please respond with comment and location.

Approx 400 miles south-SW of NYC

660 WFAN

Always listenable, sometimes sounds local: best sports talk in the
country FWIW

710 WOR

Sometimes audible, sometimes not, never real clear

770 WBC

Decent at night, better as night wears on.

880 WCBS

VG at night

1010 WINS

usually good at night but not as clear as CGS and FAN

1050 WEVD

no--didn't even no it was there. 1050 is a mess

1130 WBBR

Bloomberg radio--pretty good at night mostly--you can fall asleep to
Brits reading business news

1560 WQEW

I get pop music here decently but I've never listened long enough to
ID

I'm curious--how do you get WBZ Boston (1030), one of my favorite late
night stations and a blowtorch?

I went back to 880 a few minutes ago (about 0438 or so) and WCBS 880 was in a fade
and I heard CKLQ in Manitoba. Hadn't heard them in a while. Last time I really
recall (I'm not a MW'er by the way) was driving up to Mt. Pleasant, MI one night a
few years ago during some beautiful aurora and CKLQ was blasting in like a local.

Here near Chicago, they're not strong but they're VERY consistently
receivable year-round.

The best. If you are ever in Boca Raton, Fla., Larry is a "greeter"
at Legal Seafoods Restaurant and going strong.

Respectfully,

Location: New Jersey

I can hear WFAN, WOR, WABC, WCBS, WINS, WBBR, day and night. The daytime
reception via ground wave has no fading while the night time signals
have the typical fading caused by skywave propagation interfering with
the ground wave signal. I'm using a Drake-R8 with a 60-ft longwire. My
QTH is about 200-miles north of NYC.

I believe the call letters for 1050, now that Disney actually bought
1050 from the Forward Association, are WEPN. (for ESPN)

WEVD stood for Eugene V. Debs which was probably not the corporate
image Disney wanted. (Debs was a railroad union leader, and founder of
the Socialist Party. He was thrown in jail by Wilson for speaking out
against WWI; Harding pardoned him.)

Michael, I can remember tuning in WINS 1010 on numerous occasions in
Virginia Beach Va. Since installing special lightning arrestors that
specifically block Bcst band, my days of dx'g those stations are over.

I noticed they mentioned a reception of WINS in Germany on RVI Radio
World Sunday. Of course, under the 1941 radio treaty, WINS and WEPN
have to protect CFRB and CHUM, respectively - 1010 and 1050 are
Canadian clear channels. If you go 75-100 miles north or northwest of
NYC at night, the Canadians dominate. I suppose WINS does it with
directionality.

That is WBBR, or Bloomberg Business Radio as they prefer to be called.
It's parent is a "business news" company founded by the present mayor
of NYC, Mike Bloomberg. In the evening/early morning, they appear to
have a distinct preference for correspondents with British accents.
BTW, I'm about 60 mi. S of you.
