I fired up the old Hammarlund HQ-180 tonight, and she was working great in the
Trops. The noise level keeps droping, the later in the Fall it gets. Got a good copy, and ID of Radio Maria at 0730, on 3279khz. Lots of other stations rolling in, but I didn't copy any other ID's, so I had to resort to PWBR for assistance in sorting them out. The old "boat anchor" still works great, especially down in the Trops. It outperforms my JRC NRD-535D, in these bands. Good DXing to you, Gary |

Bruce, Ace, and Julie, I have the HQ-180 hooked up to either an Antenna
Specialist 67 1/2' sloper, or the recently erected Par Electronics EF-SWL mounted horizontally. When I switch back and forth between the two of them, the EF-SWL seems to perform better in the Trops. Ace, your so right about the HQ-180 also filling in as a shack heater. I work second shift, so by the time I get home, the programable thermostat in our house drops the heat down after 2200, while the rest of the family sleeps. When I fire up the shack at 2300, I keep the door closed and the 180 on, and it's very comfortable. Julie, in a future post, I'll put together a list of Trop Band Logs for you. Good DXing to all, Gary |

Of note, verticals will usually work better for the further DX (low
angle) signals coming in than the horizontal antenna configurations. Horizontal wires are nice for lower noise, at times, and for those stations that aren't a long ways away. Can you post any of your current Trop Band loggins. I'm curious how,
or if, well I can hear them. On 04 Nov 2004 07:45:15 GMT, (Kachina 78) wrote: I fired up the old Hammarlund HQ-180 tonight, and she was working great in the Trops.
