I am planning to purchase the Degen 1103
and I see two EBAY sellers have the radio. The Shortwave Radio Store run by Brochhi has the radio but I am wondering if it is the latest version of the Degen 1103 (on or after September 28th)?? The site does not say. V-COM Collections run by Liypn says his Degen 1103 is the newest model. Anyone know if Brochhi sells the newest version. The older versions supposely are less relaible. Liypn's costs are about $13 or so extra but maybe worth it if it is the newest version versus the old version. |

Read the auction info again and you'll see this quote... "We are selling the latest version of the DE1103 radio manufactured on or after September 28, 2004 with improvements on the shuttle control, SW/SSB sensitivity and audio quality." Liypn tests the radios before shipping them. You'll need a 220v step up transformer to use the 1103 with 110v mains in North America (if that is where you are). If you have a couple of sets of 4 AAA rechargeables and a charger you won't need mains at all. |

From the reviews I read the Degen 1103 is
a good radio for its price. Not unless all those reviews are wrong. Even Passport to WB Radio gave it good marks. "David" wrote in message news:sCrpd.6791$hJ6.5294@trndny01... The Shortwave Radio Store run by Brochhi the latest version of the Degen Liypn [100% good feedbacks and fast shipping service[8 days]have the newest model. My unit cost $64.00[including shipping].Came with an AC adapter, earbuds, carrying sack, long wire antenna with connector and 4 NiMHs batteries. Its an amazing radio.Include nice selection of filters 4khz=narrow/6khz=wide.Sound quality is very good.Inpressive sensitivity/selectivity in SW and FM bands.I tested vs my CCradio Plus in MW, both are very similar[in sensitivity] but with less hiss in the Degen.Very good performance in SSB.No drift. |

Interesting radio. Reminds me of a Sony 7700 with that display, but
this one appears to have full coverage. I've got several questions. Can it be run on mains power without having the rechargeable batteries inserted? Does it use an outboard power converter (wall wart)? If so, wouldn't a 110v supply work with the right pin connector? Radiointel website review was complimentary in many areas, but found fault with ergonomic issues. Specifically: The volume control can't be accessed directly...one has to push the volume button and wait for the tuning knob to change functions! Then to tune the process has to be reversed. One can't tune to an out of band frequency (7501) without using the keypad. If that is true then how does one tune to 7502, 7503, etc. Hopefully not direct entry. The analog dial moves in large jumps. Not a big deal, but given that the analog display occupies so much space it should be accurate. Have the ergonomic issues been addressed? If not are they a big deal in use? Obvious questions I'm sure, but this radio is completely new to me and interesting at current prices. TIA - John (Kenneth) wrote in message . com...
