It's about 4 years since I bought my Yupi, so I decided to take a look at what's available now. If I was in the market, a radio I'd be taking a closer look at is the Yaesu VX-7R. It's smaller than most of the others folks have mentioned, and it's a ham HT so it may have better selectivity on HF. It's priced about $10-20 higher than the VX-500 wideband receiver. It comes with a Lithium Ion battery. Unfortunately, it didn't turn up when I did a quick look at the Strong Signals web site. I wouldn't get one without checking it's reputation fairly carefully, as the Yaesu VR-5000 looked nice on phosphor, but got lackluster reviews for hf performance. Who are the US dealers for the Yupiter line of scanners? I haven't had much luck with a Google search.
