Default CBC/RCI 4 police dead in Alberta

4 RCMP officers were killed near Mayerthorpe, Alberta, Canada while involved
in an operation on a marijuana grow-op. The largest number of RCMP killed
at once since the 1885 Northwest Rebellion. This many be small in
comparison to other countries, but this is big and terrible for Canada. You
can hear regular updates.

@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com:

Well, marajuana might well be a "peacefull drug".
But the crazies who grow it are more into the cold
hard cash then any heallthy effects. I have stumbled across
a few weed patches while hiking in eastern KY. From the
fish hooks on monofiliment at eye level to the bear trap,
which I took with me, it is clear they are anything but "peace
luvin" hippies. It is no surpise to me that the police go in with
full combat gear when tackling a growing operation.
And the thoughts of an illegal, like there any legal ones, meth
lab gives me the willies. About a year ago some idiots had
a leak in their mobile meth lab on I75 south of the Berea exit.
They got 3rd degree chemical burns, the police got to test
their new chemical suits and I75 was closed for over 5 hours.
I just can't wait until some winner has an anhydrous amonia leak
in a residential area.
Terry

The interesting thing with the RCMP bust was that they'd already gone in
with the gear, and these guys were just guarding the place after. The
grower, who wasn't home when they raided, came back with a sniper rifle and
shot them. They ought to do this US style, just call in the tanks and raze
the place next time. They did call them in, but it was after the guys were
shot.

Well, this just set back the cause of weed legalization in Canada. Any
harsh drug laws the (minority) governing liberals want will surely be
supported by the Conservative party, ensuring passage.

What about the often cited 'fact' that Marijuana makes people mellow ?

Sad to hear that the Nation of Canada has
suffered this lost of these fine RCMP Offficers.

I think marijuana and other drug trafficking are major problems now for most
countries and the organised crime that is involved knows no limits - this
my be biker gangs, Asian, S. American or "traditional" organised crime -
whatever. These people must be stomped on. Hard.

Addiction is another issue, and I think this is a medical issue, which
should be treated. That said, I really wish courts could offer a choice:
go to jail or go to a mandatory locked treatment centre. Especially for
kids and teens. Follow-up with spot drug testing and failure means back in
the treatment centre lock-up. I want to see addicts forced to deal with
the issue via treatment and not just put in jail. They just come out and
do that same things again.

I've never said marijuana is harmless and never will. Even though there are
efforts to legalise small quantity possession or for use a medication, it
is not a medicine or a herb, it is a potent psycho-active drug. For pain,
for glaucoma, for nausea related to chemotherapy, it is not a good medicine
choice IMHO. If there are chemicals in pot (the so called cannibinoids)
that treat these problems, put them into a pill or a asthma like inhaler
(which I understand is available in Europe) and remove the THC. God knows
I'd rather take an aspirin than eat some aspen tree bark.

Wrong.

The problem was that the guy was nuts. He was feared by his
neighbours and disowned by his family, including his father, who have
had next to no contact with him despite living only a few miles away.
He had a number of convictions and had already spent some time in
jail.

Yes, this came out after. Obviously not enough time in jail. They couldn't
make charges stick except once on this guy for sexual assault. Many
charges though. I heard the interviews with his brother and father, both
who used the word "psychopath".

No death penalty in liberal Canada, so the taxpayers there will have to
support this mutant for the rest of his natural life, when in reality,
he should be taken out to a firing squad and terminated with a 20 cent
bullet.

The perpetrator took care of that, turning his rifle on himself before
reinforcements arrived.
