I think those types of town names show that the people had a good
sense of humor when naming a town, even in hard times. There is an old,
small community in Ohio called Blue Ball. The signpost is a large blue
ball erected in 1823 for people who couldn't read. The community that
grew up around it took on the name Blue Ball.

erected a sign in front of his house, which was simply a round ball
painted blue. The place derived its name from this circumstance. The

When you drive north out of Middletown Ohio on I-75 one of the
overpasses has a sign "Germantown Road" There is a similar overpass on
I-75 near gainsville Florida with the same name on the same kind of
sign. Kind of makes you homesick, sometimes.
