Years ago, we had a CBer in the neighborhood that had plywood shutters= =20 over all the first floor windows, with tiny tank style openings to see=20 from. It is believed that this individual was a habitual jammer on CB. He= =20 was even astute enough to bring the coax out of the second floor wall,=20 thereby reducing the likelihood that anyone would "pin" or cut the wire. LOL! I was big into CB back in the early 70's and this moron became=20 convinced I was another guy that lived nearby and was harassing him=20 constantly. We did sound EXACTLY alike. I didn't believe it until I=20 heard a tape a friend made of me talking to him one night. It sounded=20 like I was talking and arguing with myself. Well, this pinhead pinned my=20 coax twice, and I decided to fix him if he tried again. I had a simple=20 ground plane antenna, with no connection between the shield and center=20 wire on the coax, and I made a box that had a relay in it that was=20 connected to 4 100 watt sized flashbulbs sitting in the windowsill.=20 When/if the coax was pinned, the relay would fire 110 volts to the=20 bulbs, and would scare the crap out of him. A week went by, nothing.=20 Then, one night, I was asleep. It was about 5AM, and the lights go off.=20 When I could see again, I could see a tall skinny guy staggering towards=20 the street that ran past the back of our yard. A pair of pliers was on=20 the ground and a pin was welded into the coax. My friend and I drove=20 past where the moron worked, and there he was, with a banged up face and=20 broken nose. He had run into a tree after being blinded by the=20 flashbulbs. Later on, he apologized and gave me a huge roll of coax to=20 pay me back for the pinnings.=20 A friend moved into a house a few years ago, and he and his girlfriend=20 are asleep and one night they hear someone talking. They didn't have a=20 phone yet and are all freaked out. They could only understand half of=20 what was being said, but it was obvious the guy was pretty drunk and=20 mighty angry. My friend puts some pants on and takes his baseball bat=20 and starts looking. It's coming from his brand new Sony XBR TV, and it's=20 turned off. He turns it on, and the voice disappears, off, and it's=20 back, making threats and swearing like crazy. They didn't know it, but=20 they moved about 3 houses away from the worst "agitator" in town. I=20 helped solve the TV problem with chokes and filters, but we couldn't fix=20 the other thing that had his voice coming out of it. If the toaster was=20 plugged in, you could hear, and understand everything he said coming out=20 of the top of the toaster. Even when it was in operation, you could hear=20 the idiot yelling all the time. Obviously, unplugging it solved that=20 problem, and nature solved the problem itself when the idiot had a major=20 stroke at the ripe old age of 40, and it totally trashed his speech.=20 How Ironic.. =20 =20 2. Eyesores, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Whether the people are= =20 lunatics or not, what they do on their property is their concern. I don't= =20 hold to the theory of regulating how another person's property looks.=20 Increasingly, zoning has gone from control of significant differences in= =20 real-estate to anal control over the permissible length of a blade of=20 grass or whether or not an Amateur Radio Operator can install an antenna. When I was growing up, a neighbor lady was the neighborhood "anal".=20 Another neighbor had a car that he was restoring, and after what should=20 have a short test drive, the newly rebuilt engine let go, and he towed=20 it home, and put it in the driveway to work on when he had the chance. The neighbor lady started calling them up, nagging them about the car,=20 then she called the cops, and finally, she got the neighborhood=20 association involved and they "insisted" that he get rid of the car. He=20 "resisted" and it went to court and by the time it got there, it had the=20 new engine in it, and he "celebrated" by doing a block line burnout, in=20 front of the old lady while flipping her off. About half the block=20 clapped as he smoked the street.=20 Later on, she got a whole world of crap started when she objected to the=20 5 kids and parents who moved in next door and their seven cars that were=20 parked in the driveway and street. This time, the neighborhood Assoc=20 wasn't interested in her crap and she moved out.. =20 =20 We have a lunatic Nazi enforcer of borough laws next door. When we moved= =20 into this house (my wife's house from childhood), the lady next door, the= =20 Borough Council vice president, proceeded to tell me that I should cut=20 down this tree and that tree and all the trees on the property.=20 (therefore she would not need to rake leaves). I didn't listen. Another= =20 time she was obsessed with the small roll of cable that I left below my= =20 Direct TV antenna. It was not bothering anyone but her. My son bought a= =20 car to fix up, and it was not licensed. When my wife and I went away for= =20 the weekend, my son called us to tell us that the police had driven up=20 onto our property and ticketed the car as abandoned. It was on our=20 property. The idiot next door believed that this would rid the=20 neighborhood of the car, but my wife out maneuvered her. We had the car= =20 licensed with Classic car plates and obtained insurance for it. So there= =20 it remained, in the same spot, still an eyesore to her, but a legal=20 eyesore. There was one of those court TV type shows once where this guy and his=20 wife who ran the condo assoc. repeatedly trashed another owners totally=20 restored muscle car that apparently they weren't impressed with. They=20 left notes and wrote on the windshield stuff like "Take this junker to=20 the junkyard!" After all the windows were broken with a punch, the tires=20 slit, and the hugely expensive paint job keyed repeatedly, the victim=20 installed cameras who caught the 60 year old husband and his 40 year old=20 son trashing the car again.=20 The next afternoon at the condo association meeting, the cops come in=20 and cart all three of them off to jail. The wife and son plead guilty=20 and the hubby got 6 months. He goes into this huge tirade after the jury=20 finds him guilty, and ends up getting a psych evaluation before the=20 judge gave him the 6 months. The condo assoc. tossed the family out. The=20 guy who had the car was then elected to the condo assoc. Irony again. BDK=20 =20 If it isn't dangerous, (e.g. rat infested or poses a safety problem to=20 others), I say leave them alone. A rose is a rose by any other name. My= =20 lunatic neighbor has fine looking property, but she is a nut case that=20 makes living here difficult at times. Others are not so pristine, yet=20 much easier to live with. The lunatic neighboors in the link above will= =20 still be lunatics when the steel panels are removed. Is it fair to allow= =20 someone else to move into the neighborhood under false pretenses? =20 =20 Dr. Artaud =20 =20 =20 =20 |
