It's all very well you fella's slagging off Mike, but the view from down
here in South Africa is similar: Here we have the mightiest nation on earth, whose weather forecasters predicted the hurricane Katrina would hit N. O. at least five days beforehand. Your chief forecaster even said it would hit N.O. with winds of 160 mph and a huge storm flood two days ahead of the event. He described it as being a storm that would exceed anything in recorded weather history. Yet despite these dire warnings nothing was done until AFTER the tragedy Questions I ask? # Why was the National Guard not fully mobilised BEFORE the terrible tragedy? # The mayor asked people to leave the day before, but why was this not made mandatory and every assistance given? # Why were police reserves and rescue services not activated at the first dire warnings several days beforehand? I think it was dxAce who said that no one had ever had a tragedy on such a scale before affecting a city of one million. That is disingenuous - the fact is that the mighty U.S.A. has the biggest and best resources on earth, the best brains, the best technology and logistics, in fact every facility that the best in the world can provide to mitigate and ameliorate such a disaster, yet too little was done too late. I'm sorry fella's, instead of trying to give poor old Mike a stuffing, you should rather ferret out those slimy bureaucrats and politicians who are responsible for this gigantic SNAFU. In the meantime my sincere best wishes to the hard pressed citizens of Louisiana. -- John Plimmer, Montagu, Western Cape Province, South Africa South 33 d 47 m 32 s, East 20 d 07 m 32 s RX Icom IC-756 PRO III with MW mods Drake SW8 & ERGO software Sony 7600D GE SRIII BW XCR 30, Braun T1000, Sangean 818 & 803A. Well its been 5 days so far, and so far nothing, or at least things are just starting to happen. It should not take 5 days should it. I feel sory for them, I realy do. As for our help, then if Sky news are not lying then Blair has said he will help and why not. You need help from any quarter, because so far Bush has been an inadequate president. See Sky news and listen to the people they are all saying the same thing and that is. "Where is the help, please help us", FACT Ohhhhh dont worry Mr Bush has been on Sky news saying "Be pateint" Its OK for him to say that he isnt in the **** as they are is he. As for the looters some are just that. Others are looting for food and clean water and medicine, I dont blame them they are trying to survive, trying to get to the next say. So go on have a go because I have critisized your all powerfull Mr Bush. He isnt so powerfull in the end is he, 5 days and not alot is happening. Thats a TOTAL disgrace to all you Americans. You all deserve something better than that. Or are ANY of you saying 5 days is OK? How would you feel if you were in the exact same conditions as they are after 5 days would you loot to feed your loved one or partner or starve and not do any thing for your self? (get ready to tell me "**** you") saying that to me WILL NOT alter the facts, no matter how you want to defend My Bush. -- http://uk.geocities.com/swift240/mikes_page_1.html |

Things got significantly worse on Tuesday when major breaches opened in levees. The disaster area covers 90,000 square miles. (233,100 square kilometers) Here's a story indicating rescuers were having trouble getting to the area: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4199350.stm It was last updated on Wednesday just after noon in the UK - very early morning in the disaster area. It reflects information gathered on Tuesday. Sure it would be nice if we could have gotten enough people and supplies in sooner - but it's not a trivial task. |

Two million gallon oil storage tank near Venis,Louisiana, leaking into
the Mississippi River. www.drudgereport.com I heard from someone earlier today there are two oil tankers (Ships) waiting in New Orleans so the oil can be offloaded for the refineries. Two oil tankers, two million gallons of oil each.Someone shot holes in the sides of the oil tankers and they are leaking.I dont know if it is true or not.I think that is some tough steel plates on the sides of those oil tankers and I think some of them are double hulled,or whatever it's called. It must be some very powerfull Rifles and ammo that can shoot holes in the sides of those oil tankers. cuhulin |

As of today the US has received offers of assistance from Canada, the UK, France (!), Germany(!!), Venzuela(!!!), and Israel. There may be a couple of others, but I forget. T. PS: Chavez got in a wipe at W by calling him the "Vacation President". |
