Children's Hospital under siege http://www.nola.com/newslogs/breakin...08.html#075290 Tuesday, 11:45 p.m. Late Tuesday, Gov. Blanco spokeswoman Denise Bottcher described a disturbing scene unfolding in uptown New Orleans, where looters were trying to break into Children's Hospital. Bottcher said the director of the hospital fears for the safety of the staff and the 100 kids inside the hospital. The director said the hospital is locked, but that the looters were trying to break in and had gathered outside the facility. The director has sought help from the police, but, due to rising flood waters, police have not been able to respond. Bottcher said Blanco has been told of the situation and has informed the National Guard. However, Bottcher said, the National Guard has also been unable to respond. Given that most of the residents of New Orleans are black, I'd expect most of the ones "left behind" to be black. I imagine we'd have worked just as hard to help them if they were white. But who besides you cares what color they are? But many of the people who are still there chose to stay when they were warned to get out. One of them is Fats Domino. Hopefully, he and his family are OK. And many had no way to leave, even if they did want to. My prayers go out for them all. Hope Fats is around for the next big Rock and Roll revival. |

America for its glory and all its power cant even get its act together for there own. This is so sad, DONT tel me they had no warning about the hurricane. This just goes to show no matter how big or powerfull or how advanced a country is, a hurricane that size can bring it to its knees in no time. I truly hope New Orleans gets back on its feet and eventualy gets back to some sort of normality. My heart goes out to all those who have lost loved ones. Come on Bush get off your f****** ass and do some thing. Its ok to go on TV and tell all how they should be, DO SOMETHING talk is cheap. I have been to New Orleans many, many, many times before.I have walked up
the steps and stood on those Levees before in New Orleans.I turned around and I looked at those residential houses on the streets down below me,my feet were as high up on the Levee as the height of the roof tops of the houses.I turned around again and I looked out over Lake Ponchartrain. It was Scarey,I can tell you! I got back in my van and I went to Vieux Carrie (French Quarter) for a while and then I came back home.I was thinking,I sure am glad I dont live in New Orleans,it is a wonderfull city to visit, but not for me.My house here in Jackson is always high and dry.In fact, the side of the street I live on is about half the height of one story houses higher up than the houses across the street from me.It would take a hell of a flood to flood my house. cuhulin |

Most of the people left behind in New Orleans are Black and Poor... Left behind or decided to stay?? There's a good amount of both, IMHO. If this had been a red State city city full of affluent white people would the response have been different ?? Nope. Of course, who knows what would have happened in the breakdown of law and order. I've never seen a breakdown in an affluent part of town, but that doesn't mean that it can't happen, either. We got to see our own personal breakdown of law and order up close and personal here in Cincy. Took about 2 days to restore order in the 2001 riots, and that was without the logistical nightmare facing NO right now. When all the police were trying to restore order in the affected parts of town, several houses in the "calmer" parts of town decided it was a good idea to throw huge boozer and marijuana parties, because they knew the cops weren't around to arrest them or break up the parties. Once enough National Guard troops and Army troops (when they're formally invited in) hit the ground, the lawlessness will get corrected. Besides, once NO is cleared out, all the stolen stuff will have to remain behind anyway. It would look rather obvious if you're trying to get on a bus carrying a plasma television. --Mike L. |
Nail jello to a wall,,, push a chain up a hill? Here is a neat little
trick.Get an empty glass soda pop bottle and find an inside corner of a bare unpainted concrete/cinder block wall.Bet somebody you can hang the bottle in the corner.Rub the bottle up and down agains't the inside corner of the wall.If you do it right, the bottle will stay right there for a while.Every link of a chain comes to a complete stop as the link(s) are going around the chain sprockets even though the chain and chain sprockets are still going around and around and around,,,,,,,,, cuhulin |

I learned that soda pop bottle trick in 1972 when I was going to night

Or is it the total idiotic behaviour of how some react over there when help is given. Its about time the National Guard was sent in as I read on the news, to give some sort of help. OK a shoot to kill policy has been sent to the Guard, not a good thing, there has been enough lose of life as it is. But this shows no matter what county it could have been over here or any where else, that it dont take much for a lose of such control. Now before you go and say "oh **** you" listen to the news you ****ing moron and hear what the people say. Unless you are to stupid to do that. THEY are saying "help us, where is the help" Then again what else do you expect them to say, they have lost to much far to much. Again my heart goes out to them all of them. Now go ahead and have another go at me, if it will make you feel good. BUT there are people in other countries saying the same thing, the help should have been sorted out a while before all this terrible thing happened. Well its been 5 days so far, and so far nothing, or at least things are just starting to happen. It should not take 5 days should it. I feel sory for them, I realy do. As for our help, then if Sky news are not lying then Blair has said he will help and why not. You need help from any quarter, because so far Bush has been an inadequate president. See Sky news and listen to the people they are all saying the same thing and that is. "Where is the help, please help us", FACT Ohhhhh dont worry Mr Bush has been on Sky news saying "Be pateint" Its OK for him to say that he isnt in the **** as they are is he. As for the looters some are just that. Others are looting for food and clean water and medicine, I dont blame them they are trying to survive, trying to get to the next say. So go on have a go because I have critisized your all powerfull Mr Bush. He isnt so powerfull in the end is he, 5 days and not alot is happening. Thats a TOTAL disgrace to all you Americans. You all deserve something better than that. Or are ANY of you saying 5 days is OK? How would you feel if you were in the exact same conditions as they are after 5 days would you loot to feed your loved one or partner or starve and not do any thing for your self?
