What, you didn't know that newsgroups were subsumed into the blogosphere by the Internet Act of 2005? ;-) People do not seem to understand the purpose of Usenet, which is to post news. Naturally, any on topic information pertaining to the news group charter is also OK to post. Most people including myself also include editorial content along with the news and information as such often needs context to be most useful. Some people then go off the reservation with total or nearly total editorial content (opinion) for which Blogs were created. The people that think this is a Blog space belong in the kill file along with the off topic abusers. I hate to say this, since it will classify me as an old timer, but the people using the net would do well to have a sense of history about items such as usenet, gopher and the www. I'm not talking about taking classes, per se, but understanding the difference between a blog, an online column, usenet and website forums would be useful. --Mike L. |
