Some people gotta make a buck... But the Hamvention is coming back, I think - there were _definitely_ more people there than last year, and equal or more exhibitors both in the flea market and inside. We may yet get back to the state of affairs where there's 30,000 people coming to the Hamvention again, complete with a banquet and free buses, and buses to the motels. We can hope - its a great weekend. We do need more ham radio gear and less outright junk in the flea market, tho. Dave Head |

A savings of $50 is a hill-o-beans when the radio sells for 5G anyway I was thinking more like a hi-end HT, at maybe $350 instead of the regular price of $400. and is buillt inside like a cheap VCR (most Icoms fall into this category) Not the Kenwoods I buy. I think ICOM makes some fine radios, too - they're pretty well respected, and most everybody wants a 756... Dave Head Dave Head |

Ebay & "The Market"
Michael A. Terrell wrote: "John S." wrote: Clearly Ebay and other internet sites won't completely replace in person sales, be it a hamfest, garage sale or estate auction. But the ease of bringing large numbers of buyers and sellers together via some internet connection has had a significant impact on brick and mortar operations. The ease of transacting a sale electronically be it for a Kenwood 940 or a spinning wheel can't be ignored. And the sellers that fail to react in some way will be left behind. Yeah, right. What about the people who don't even have a computer, or don't trust online transactions? They'll never go near E-bay. They will be left in the dust. I suppose those who don't have a computer or don't trust online transactions could try setting up an ether-based net using morse code. I suspect that it will be largely one-way communications though. -- Service to my country? Been there, Done that, and I've got my DD214 to prove it. Member of DAV #85. Michael A. You didn't include any quote to know to whom you are referring and these posts don't necessarily fall in the expected order. Resort them by thread by using Google reader.
