![]() The Computer industry got it right the first time. They provide a ( universal ) case, plug-replaceable power supply, and plug-in circuit cards for features. You can lash together a working system from "the junk bin". Suppose the Radio industry followed suit; You could buy the case of your choice ( portable or desk-size ) A case insert for controls, frequency display. A wall-wart would probably be a suitable power supply. A plug in card for the audio quality of your choice, a plug-in for the rf section of your choice. Configure the radio with the features you need, using ( standardized ) plug-in components. Seems like manufacturers and consumers would win out. rj |
