Hey all,
Just kinda tossing this out there. I am currently using my old TV antenna for my SC150B and it works pretty well as far as I can tell...I can get most of the local cops pretty clear as far away as 50 miles or so....I have the amp/pre-amp hooked up with the FM trap set to "out".... I guess my question is this: is there any advantage to purchasing and mounting a new discone style or beam style antenna? I will be upgrading to a PRO-95 shortly so that I can get the locally trunked cops too. Any comments or suggestions appreciated. Cheers! R. |

If you can, remove the mounting hardware and
re-install it so the antenna is oriented vertically. Most public safety transmissions are vertically polarized. Turn the FM trap ON to eliminate any intermod that strong local FM stations might generate. |

I would add , without knowing the feedline setup,
that TV antennas are generally 300ohm and need a balun to go to 75 ohm coax...for VHF and UHF work, I would say buy the best low insertion loss balun you can(not radio shack, search google for hi quality ones!), locate the lowest NF, highest IP3 pre amp right next to the balun and then just about any length/type of coax down to the scanner and you will hear a lot! HOWEVER, your mileage may vary, tom f "Skweezieweezie" wrote in message news ![]() If you can, remove the mounting hardware and re-install it so the antenna is oriented vertically.
