"richard valentine" wrote in message ... Well Pete, I Have An MR78 (photo of it with the TX-1000 on top of it for you at link: http://www.vtxpress.com/block/tx-mr.jpg and have side by sided them extensively with rooftop antenna with rotor. They are both receiving a very marginal signal at 101.1 WCBS NYC, from Central CT. in the photo. So I have done actual - research. Heres the deal, The MR78..because it has no remote or presets or precise freq. display, lost ground to the yamaha. If both were strictly manual tune, I'd give it to the MR78, not to mention it's beautiful looks. But thats my reasoning. As for DX signals, theres never been any weakest of weak signal on the MR78 that I couldnt also get on the TX1000, and vice-versa. They are that closely matched. I will conceed that perhaps "One Of The Best....." would have been a better subject header.. and I was considering it, but ... eh'... I will next time. I do appreciate the feedback. Hope readers enjoy the photo. I have a great time with both receivers and that classic rotor setup. rick Thanks for the reply, Richard. It is good to see that there are actually living eBay people advertising on this NG, instead of just spammers. I do respect you greatly for that! Anyway, my point was the "best" characteristic that you applied to the TX1000. That tuner is a very musical tuner, more musical sounding than the MR78, as they come out of the box. Where the MR78 excels is in its RF handling characteristics (IM rejection and adjacent channel selectivity). Out of my tuner collection, the best sounding units are my Luxman T-88V, T-110, Parasound TDQ-150, followed by my MR78 ( I did redesign the multiplex decoder in the MR78, using a Philips TDA1591 decoder chip. The stereo separation over most of the audio band is now 55dB, but now it sounds like a Magnum Dynalab MD102. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggg!) I think my worst sounding tuner is my Cambridge Audio T-500. Super AM section, but hard, steely sound. My main stereo system consists of a Marshall Leach LNF-1A power amp, with a Leach preamp. Good soft, mellow sound with everything except that T-500 tuner. Anyway, once again, thanks for the reply. I wish you the best on your auction! Pete |
