Which is better - Tram D201 or D201a and why?

I've heard some people say the D201 is better, but I've never heard a
decisive reason as to why.

Thnx

I had a D201, which of course had the VFO modded to cover the full 40
channels, and I can tell you it was a awesome radio. I regret basically
giving it away, but as things go, interests change from time to time. Oh
well.

And why? Do you have a chance to pick one up?

It really is a matter of preeference. The major differences is that
the D201A was made in Mexico, unconfirmed, and had the tube sockets
mounted on PCBs. The D201 also a tube rig used point to point wiring.

try Googling "tram D201"

Those old tube rigs do have some advantages over more modern solid
state radios. Better immunity to overload. Still 455KHz second IF is
to high a frequency to not use ceramic or crytal filters. Lower IF
frequencies are more suseptable to image problems but are not bad for
LC filters.
