Remember please that we are going to publish ONLY 144 MHz Logs - if
we get input for 6m, 4m or 3m reports we do use it for the headline.
As you all know, the most necessary at a SPORADIC E Opening will be
to be at the right time at the right place. As well every of us will
have some "warning" systems for the time between May to August. One
new possibility will be a public SKYPE DX Cluster for Band 1 & 2
which was build up by David, MM3FYA. To join it please just search
for David on skype (search "tvdxrools") and he will add you on the
list. Try it - I believe its one more good tool for prepair yourself!

May 30/31 DUBUS/REF EU EME Contest (48 hours), 23cm CW only.
This is a good opportunity also for Tropo stations without elevation
to listen for EME signals and even work some of the big guns on 23cm

Solar Cycle 24 Prediction Updated May 2009
The Solar Cycle 24 Prediction Panel has reached a consensus
decision on the prediction of the next solar cycle (Cycle 24).
First, the panel has agreed that solar minimum occurred in Dec.,
2008. This still qualifies as a prediction since the smoothed
sunspot number is only valid through September, 2008. The panel
has decided that the next solar cycle will be below average in
intensity, with a maximum sunspot number of 90. Given the
predicted date of solar minimum and the predicted maximum
intensity, solar maximum is now expected to occur in May, 2013.
Note, this is a consensus opinion, not a unanimous decision.
A supermajority of the panel did agree to this prediction.

Hermann, DL2NUD, and Joachim, DL9MS, are preparing an 144 MHz
Expedition to Tanzania (5H). Both will try to activate the
Squares KI93RU and KI94RA during the 2 weeks trip. Joachim informed
MMMonVHF that their first goal will be 144 MHz EME and maybe some
MS and as well some HF and 50 MHz work. As soon the Team gets the

The contest crew DM7A will be radio active from JO74aa from
June 30th to July 5th with good take-off for the microwaves.
Focus of our activities will be 23cm and up especially in the
IARU contest 4/5th july. But we will be qrv on 2m meteorscatter
and IOTA frequencies as well in the days b4 the contest. We

Holiday Style Operation from Georg, DL8NP from Sylt (JO44)
Georg, DL8NP, will be trying to setup a small holiday style
station in the time frame 31.5. to 09.06.2009 from the german
island SYLT (WW-Loc: JO44dv). RIG: Ant: 4* HB9CV, vertical
stacked, abt. 10dBd, Pwr: abt. 40 W HF - He will be qrv in SSB
and CW on 144.300 MHz +/- for Tropo & Es specialy in time

G4CIB/P will be operating from Lundy Island (IO71) in the Bristol
Channel between Saturday 16th May and Saturday 23rd May. On Saturday
16th and Sunday 17th activity will be on 144MHz to coincide with
the contest. For the remainder of the week I will be active on
50MHz, 3.5MHz, 7.0MHz & 10MHz.

I will be on the Azores again and will be QRV on 6m between July
21 and July 31 from the island of Faial, CU7. locator HM58qo.
Equipment is a K3 and a 4 el beam. As Portugal authorities ANACOM
is in the process for a completely new radio amateur law I cannot
say yet the call sign which we may use. For 6m there are two
possibilities CU7/CT3FN or CT8/CT3FN. CT8 will be the new prefix for
all Azorean islands! As soon as I know more about callsign etc. I

HV5PUL - The station from Pontifical Lateran University it's
active again on six with a three element yagi. Activity is
coming on 1-3-4 june 2009 by several operators of ARI Saronno.
The station can be on air also on ES opening. Spots of
I0JX/B will be helpful to understand propagation.

ALGARVE STAR DX Team will be active from new island in south of
Portugal on 24.May.2009. They have now all license. It is private
island and is first activity with owner autorization! But we have
small problem. Small bridge is down and landing via boat is very
very difficult. We will try anyway. If landing will be not possible
we change to other island, but activity will be on air. We will

During the May 30/31 weekend PI9CAM will be active again! Maybe
also some activity on Friday evening May 29. More info in the week

70 cm: 300 W @ feed - 2 m: 400 W @ feed. QRV on SSB, FM, CW and JT
Starting 1 hour after our moonrise. Ending 1 hr before our moonset

EU-043 on 14-17 May. They plan to operate on 80-2 metres with

RZ6BB/MM VHF MS Activity
Alex, RZ6DD/MM (ex-RW1ZC/MM) aboard the Desert Diamond will be
coming into port at Cape Town to unload for the first time since
he returned to duty in South African waters. He had planned to
install the 144 MHz beam during his first trip out but found that
the mast which he left aboard the ship had gone missing while he
was back in Russia. A new mast will be obtained while he is in Cape
Town so he should be ready for 2m meteor scatter operation within
the next two weeks. While he is back at sea we will be sending down
to Cape Town a 50 MHz beam which will be collected the next time
Alex is in port and installed soon after. As soon as installation
is completed (mid-June?) he will also become active on 6m MS ...

Said, SU1SK, and several other SU operators will be active as SU8LH
from the first Egyptian Lighthouse DXpedition on Ras El-Bar Island
in the Dumyat zone in northern Egypt between August 1-9th. Look for
SU8LH to participate in the special event ILLW International Light-
house / Lightship Week. Activity will be on the HF bands, as well
