Is it really appropriate that two grown ups should be congratulated
in an international forum because they have scraped through an exam
that is targetted at 5-year-olds?

Really?

Why does such an exam even exist, for in the days of the former
written RAE and 12 WPM Morse test, otherwise-unqualified
self-taught 14-year-olds were taking it in their stride.

With the education that has been freely available for decades in this
country, both in maths and science, then surely no grown up
wishes to boast that they have passed an exam which 5-year-olds
have been passing?

Indeed, any adult who has passed through the school system and
has difficulty with, or lacks enthusiasm for, technical issues
is perhaps an unsuitable entrant to amateur radio; amateur radio
which is not an operator's hobby (that is CB Radio) but a whole-life
technical pursuit?
