Default FT Need A Laptop with serial port

I use a friend laptop which is a 1.2 gig cpu and has serial port and it
takes just 4 to 5 minutes to upload a program.and on the other hand mine is
2.4 with a usb to serial with same program and it takes me 20 minutes to
upload same program to same item.

The problem with usb to serial converter is that it runs way too slow on
most
programs I use.

Interesting, 'cause I use my USB-enabled serial port to download data into
flash onto my clients' boards at 115.2K at full speed and with negligible
CPU usage. Maybe it's a settings problem? What does "too slow" mean
exactly?
