I have a friend who has a Yaesu FT-8800R transceiver That transmits a
"beep" each time he transmits. We could probably figure out how to turn it off if we knew what the function is called... A full reset will clear the condition but it also clears all the other programming. Once again, if we knew what the "feature" was called we could probably figure out how it gets turned on unintentionally. John, W8CCW John Ferrell W8CCW |

Thanks, but Menu 5 is an audible beep when a key board key is pressed.
The tone that happens with this problem is heard at the transmitter and the receiver. Ok, then it HAS to be that you have the WIRES activated. Every time you key up,
it sends a tone code to initiate the WIRES link... Bob N9LVU John Ferrell wrote: Thanks, but Menu 5 is an audible beep when a key board key is pressed. I can't remember what the function was called but it took me a few hours to find out what it was trough experimentation. Press the right hand volume control down briefly disables it. I really hate the controls for this radio. They add stupid functions like this to the front panel but leave important things like memory skip deep in the menus. |

This is probably the Yaesu WIRES (internet-connection) feature. It's enabled by pressing the lefthand VOL knob briefly. When enabled, the text INT ON appears in the display for a couple of seconds, an "int" icon appears in the display (memory-channel field of the subband part of the display), and a DTMF tone is sent at the beginning of each transmission. To disable it, press the lefthand VOL knob again, and confirm that the "int" icon disappears from the display. -- Dave Platt AE6EO Hosting the Jade Warrior home page: http://www.radagast.org/jade-warrior I do _not_ wish to receive unsolicited commercial email, and I will boycott any company which has the gall to send me such ads! |

Not a dumb question, but sure as hell a DUMB feature
Tis Wires beep necessary when using WIRES (Wide-Coverage Internet Repeater Enhancement System). To disable, press the volume control on the lower left of the rig. See page 52 of the manual http://www.yaesu.com/ We had a demo station at the San Diego Fair that beeped every time they transmitted Almost every time a repeater cop just had to tell them - ya gotta beep on your signal Using the on-line manual - took two hours to figure out how to disable it And if you think that is dumb -- wait until someone uses the ARTS feature on your repeater ARTSTM: Auto Range Transponder System .... page 46 -- CL -- I doubt, therefore I might be !
