Were the moderated newsgroup proponents just blowing smoke?
There has been utter silence in news.groups and in news.groups.proposals
with respect to any new, moderated group in the rec.radio hierarchy. As the month of January unfolds, will that continue to be the case? If so, Mark Morgan and his mindless minions of moronity will have won. |

as to winning I have won already I was not seleinced by you and your friends I'm sorry, but I have this mental image of you standing on a heap of garbage at the local landfill with arms outstreached and saying, "This is all mine." Bwahahahahahaha! 'Cause that's all you've got Mark - a garbage heap. On the other hand, when I want serious discussion of amateur radio matters, I go to a place where you're not allowed - http://www.qrz.com. Soy yer nora, Mark; soy yer nora. You were kicked off qrz.com for a very good reason. Back into my twit filters you go. *plonk* |

Please be patient. 73, Jeff KH6O -- In all honesty? I don't forsee your moderated group going far. What "moderated" means to many of us is that the group is censored. Censoring a group, and allowing or not allowing comments at the whim or mood of an administrator is hardly appealing. Paul may find it appealing, as you apparently do, too. Good luck on your proposed little fifedom. Who, besides you and Paul, will wear the gold-encrusted crown bearing the lofty title of Moderator Supreme? Which of you will use the golden sword of self-appointism to slash unwelcome comments? And where does censorship, once begun, stop? Since there is to be no oversight, you and The Royal Court will have no checks and balances. My prediction is that your moderated group will initially attract a few like-minded Hams, but will ultimately suffer from disinterest and boredom and fade into oblivion within a year at most. dit dit dit dah..... |

The qrz.com groups, including the Q&A group, is moderated. They have been pretty successful. There are presently 108 topics in the Q&A section many with 30+ replies. -- 73, Cecil http://www.w5dxp.com |

I won't go near moderated newsgroups, but on the other hand, it's hardly "censorship" when they are created in response to all kinds of junk in a newsgroup that is there because people have no sense of self-control. There is ultimately a big difference between saying what you want to say, and saying what you want to say even if it has no relevance to the topic at hand. It's the latter that have damaged this newsgroup (with overflow to some of the other newsgroups). I would point out that while I basically try to tune it out, it would seem there are attempts at "censorship" here, in the spews by a few people who just think by repeated postings attacking other posters they can get their way. People who don't like others imposing rules have to accept some responsibility in helping to ensure that any space is still a valid space. Michael VE2BVW |

Putting most of the nitwits in your killfile accomplishes the same thing, and when you do this, this newsgroup is amazingly quiet. Gentlemen can agree to disagree without the personal attacks and name-calling. Unfortunately, the hate that has rotted the minds of a few tends to carry forth into public forums. |

Debate and argument is the spice of life. It is necessary in our gov't, business and homes--just to keep things running! While often we tend to think it is desirable to live in the world without difference of opinions and ideas, such a world quickly becomes dusty, moldy, brittle and unsatisfying. Probably the most important function(s) colleges teach are all centered around argument and debate. Filth and perversion can always be "moderated out" without loss of relevant info and dialog. Using moderation to halt debate and argument is just a "Morons Filter." And, off topic? A bit keeps it interesting ... if faced with too much--that IS what the killfile is for ... Regards, JS |

As one who got carried away on occasion in the past (and has repented and changed), I would urge folks to clean up this newsgroup. As pointed out above, putting the flamers in your killfile will clean it up (as it appears to you, at least, and MAY result in them getting tired of the lack of attention and going away. (remember the message a day or so ago "Don't feed the troll." :-) 73, Carl - wk3c |
