They are "zero content" words that get in the way of the topic or joke or whatever. I remember watching one of the Eddie Murphy movies and getting disgusted. Here was a amazingly funny guy, and all the profanity just got in the way, like you said. If you want to listen to how profanity can be used properly in entertainment, listen to Garrison Keillor. He will say a mild off color word about once every 6 months, and it's very rarity makes for a real kick. His 4th of July fireworks barge disaster is a classic in that way. - Mike KB3EIA - |
