FRS: Family Radio Service, no license required, 1/2 watt max., no antenna
modifications.

GMRS: General Mobile Radio Service, license required, used to be used by
some small businesses, but was turned back over to "Citizens Radio Service".

ITIN: Itinerant, low power, usually mobile situations, used at random, (not
fixed), locations. Typically used for business.

The colors, and stars, were used to designate various frequencies, without
actually showing what they were.

Five of these Itenerant freqs in the VHF band have been turned over to MURS
now
(Multi-Use Radio Service) Kind of like FRS but with more power allowed

FRS: Family Radio Serevice: a licnese free low power radio service, carved out
of older Business Frequencies. Limited to low power units with fixed antennas.
Best serve families in small areas and such. Frequencies a

1................... 462.5625
2................... 462.5875
3................... 462.6125
4................... 462.6375

6................... 462.6875
7................... 462.7125
8................... 467.5625

GMRS: General Mobile Radio Service: a Licnesed Radio Service with more power
and options. Licenses cost about $50.00 from the FCC, the license covers all
family members. Formerly a Business Service, now only private licenses are
issued, not sure if they have grandfathered older Business users though.

For Frequencies see:
http://www.gmrsweb.com/gmrstable.html

General Info:
http://www.gmrsweb.com/gmrsinter.html

The colors are often used to identify frequencies pre-set on business radios.

Mostly standard but not 100% of the time.

Some of the color frequencies are now MURS : Multi-Use Radio Service. MURS is
also a license free service, limited to 5w with some limitations on what you
can do.

Hope this helps.
