S.A.M.E. warnings question
I have a RS Pro 89 scanner and a Midland WR-300 weather radio.
My weekly tests come across fine from Ocean County every Wednesday. We have been in a winter storm watch for about 6 hours now, and the 'watch' light on the Midland radio has not lit up. And the radio has not woken up. I put the RS scanner on a WX channel in Philadelphia. I receive both stations fine. My question is, do the SAME tones only get broadcasted once per event? Also a 'special weather statement' was issued for cold weather. Again, the 'statement' light has not come on. And the RS scanner has not woken up. Thanks for any info. |

The NWS Forecast Office in Mt. Holly only does the alert one time. If you
miss it, they don't do it again unless there is a new advisory or warning. Their might be a problem with your receiver, or you might have incorrect codes. I have a Uniden 780XLT and it gets all alerts. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/ Good Luck! Bob "Fishy" wrote in message ... I have a RS Pro 89 scanner and a Midland WR-300 weather radio. Thanks for the reply Bob.
I know I have the correct code in for my county. Southard,NJ broadcasting with 300 watts comes in pretty good with code 034029. I just made a change in one setting a few minutes ago. The book says I can receive ALL SAME message alerts from the trasmitter if I want. This will null out any programmed codes. I will wait and see what happens. My weekly tests come across fine from Ocean County every Wednesday. I put the RS scanner on a WX channel in Philadelphia. I receive both stations fine. According to the NWS website, the Phila or Mount Holly NWS transmitters don't broadcast the alerts for Ocean County. Only the Atlantic City, Southard and NYC transmitters provide SAME coverage for Ocean County. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/nwrnj.htm Jeff Multer Fort Mill, S.C. |

I mainly listen to the Hardyston Transmitter. But I get all 4 transmitters
crystal clear. Are you using indoor or outdoor antenna? I use a scantenna on a 5ft. TV mast from the rat shack! 73 bob "Jeff Multer" wrote in message ... Hi Jeff. I should have been a little more clear. The Midland weather radio I have Southard punched in which is located in Ocean County. Scantenna is in the attic. I am also going to put the Pro-89 on Southard in PRI mode and see what happens. We have the artic blast coming in now, but I dont know if there will be any type of warning for this. I guess I should call and check on him this weekend, and make sure he and his mrs are doing okay. Jeff Multer Fort Mill, S.C. |

They may not alert for all warnings and watches. Some areas only alert for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms figuring that people don't want to be awakened in the middle of the night because they are going to be snowed in. Call or e-mail your local NWS office and ask. |
