![]() OKAY, I TAKE EVERYTHING BACK, THAT I SAID BAD ABOUT THE DEGEN 31 !!! The blame of the wrong wiring, was on the stupid diagram, wrongly showing the connections, on the EBAY site and other sites! In fact, I had the wire the wrong way, with the battery pack handing just under the square form antenna, and the long wire leading to the radio. As soon as I reversed the direction, with long wiring dropping from the square shaped antenna, the battery pack sat side by side with my degen 1102, so I won't be susceptible to the fragile wire connection, as it won't be hanging. Finally, there is no need to have the connector half inserted into the ext. antenna jack, because I fully inserted it, the reception was poor, but all that was needed, was to move the TUNING ADJUST on the de31 aaa box, and the signal became ideal, strong, clear and quite a bit better than using only the whip antenna! Mystery solved....blame the poor diagram, showing on ebay, misleading customers about proper assembly. ! Also, it was never explained that the extra part with 2 clips, is intended for those people wishing to replace the square shaped antenna, with a simple long wire form, which is almost the same as the long wired originally shipped with the degen 1102 radio, so I don't see the point of that part, as it's useless. The batteries, as stated last also, seem to be hanging in there, fine, after several hours too. Are you sure that you're attaching things in the right order --- the battery pack should have plenty of wire to be able to place on a table and not be hanging from the antenna. B) Not being patient with the tuning. You really have to tune it slowly. First move it until you can hear the area of the dial where it 'clicks' and then move it much, much slower around that area to tune it perfectly. |

The picture here seems clear. It also shows the part with two clips. http://kaitousa.com/KA31.htm craigm |

Pure - No the Two-Clips are to connect : * The White-Clip to the Radio's Screw Antenna Terminal or Whip Antenna * The Black-Clip to the Radio's Screw Ground Terminal or the Chassis Ground. The Loop Antenna Element is used at all times. THE 2 CLIP WIRE IS ONLY INTENDED FOR THOSE PEOPLE WITH RADIOS THAT ARE LACKING THE EXTERNAL ANTENNA JACK !!! THE DEGEN 1102 HAS THAT EXT. ANT. JACK, SO THERE IS NO NEED TO USE THAT CLIP THING ON IT |

* The White-Clip to the Radio's Screw Antenna Terminal
or Whip Antenna * The Black-Clip to the Radio's Screw Ground Terminal or the Chassis Ground. My DE1105 radio has no antenna jack. When connecting the white clip of the DE31 to the telescopic antenna of the DE1105, reception is improved a bit, but only if the DE31 tuner is off. When turning on the DE31 tuner, reception degrades. Where can I connect the black clip? I tried it on one of the battery minus poles with some aluminium foil but it didn't help. |

DE1105 and DE31
At first, I took a wire and connected it to the negative battery terminal and the clip... it did help remove alot of the excess noise... but then I couldn't close the battery cover. I have since purchased a solder mini-plug (a couple of dollars) from radio shack (they didn't have the non-solder, which I would've preferred). I take off the cover of the plug and clip the ground clip from the antenna to the long connector of the plug. I then plug the jack into the headphone jack, until I feel resistance, so that only the ground is connected. (No soldering involved). I plan on eventually snipping the bottom of the plug. Again, as others have said, make sure that the amp/tuner is on the correct side of the wire/antenna and fine tune it well.
