Missing AM/MW Antenna ? - - - Not !http://groups.google.com/group/rec.r...ce2c8e2c733395 - - - What's the real story with that? - - The real story is that it uses the whip antenna - rather than a wound ferrite for AM reception. - - - Are people saying that the AM reception is poor with the whip? - - I haven't heard any people say that. Have you? - - Roadie, Let's see . . . My 1995 Jeep GCL's AM/FM Radio only uses a Whip Antenna -HEY- Wait a minute just about every Car and Truck on the Road uses 'only' a Whip Antenna -and- They all generally get better AM & FM Radio reception then most Home Radios with an AM/MW Ferrite Rod Antenna. FWIW - The Grundig Satellit 800-M only has a 4" AM/MW Ferrite Rod Antenna. - - - The Ferrite Rod Antenna is the better Bi-Directional Antenna. Oops - You only get this 'optimum' Signal Peaking and Nulling result when you "Rotate" the Radio with the Ferrite Rod Antenna built into it for the best signal. The Eton E1 Radio has a 40" Whip Antenna plus a "DX" Switch {RF Pre-Amp} which gives a 10~15 dB Signal Boost. - - - The Whip Antenna is the better Omni-Directional AM/MW Antenna. NEWS - The Eton E1 Radio can 'handle' an External 35~105 Feet long "Random Wire" Antenna and provide excellent AM/MW Radio reception without overloading. well i'll be whipped -but- never beaten by a ferrite rod - iane ~ RHF . O u t ! There's no doubt that a whip can work on AM. Of course it can work. At the same time, I don't think that anyone without an ax to grind would deny that a ferrite loop is a lot better. There's a reason all those MW dxers out there are using loops.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - For One and All, As a 'portable' AM/FM Shortwave Radio the Eton E1 Radio may be lacking an AM/MW Ferrite Rod Antenna . . . -=BUT IF=- You consider it to be a 'Shortwave Receiver' like my Kenwood R-5000 and Icom IC-R75 and many others -which are- Also lacking a a built-in AM/MW Ferrite Rod Antenna . . .
