Default Icom R-75 Sensitivity

From my experimentation, I find the an Eton E5/G5 and a Degen 1103 to
be as sensitive on their whips as an R75 is with about 10' of indoor
wire without coax. Hell, they're probably more sensitive.

With coax and a real antenna, the R75 is many times more sensitve.
Even without preamps on.

I purchased one of these sets and my E10 Eton seems just about as sensitive

The sensitivity is not that good at least in comparison on these two sets.
I wanted a new in-box set but the store only had this one, so they said, and
they rest were on back order.
I've e-mailed them offering to return it and purchase a new "In-box unit" as
well as maybe the E1 plus extended warranties on all. RadioWorld Canada is
the Vendor and we will see what they come up with.
I'll let you know the results.

This is very strange as over many years of playing with radio's the
good tabletops like your R75 are usually at least 10 dB more sensitive
than a portable off the whip.

So I can only assume that you have not got a properly matched 50 Ohm
antenna attached to the R75. I assure you a R75 with only 50 feet of
longwire antenna terminated into a 9:1 matching transformer and RG58
coax runin will give you superb results, far outstripping any portable
on the market.

Also, have you engaged the pre-amps on the R75?
Otherwise the R75 may be malfunctioning, a most unlikely scenario as
they are notoriously reliable = a great radio.

I agree with John on this; try the pre amps on the R-75;

also usng twin PBT usually helps clarify the signal

-Since the R-75 is Such a sensitive / selective beast, it will pick
up and amplify Any household
interference around.

- so, a good, solid co-ax out to a decent ( 30 foot) antenna is
mandatory with this set.

Living in New York, I have the Worlds Worst Antenna / Co-ax set up,
but can , with the R-75

Pick up astoundingly faint signals with it
