'Don't Get Your Hopes Up' Over April Revs, Says Analyst"

NEW YORK -- May 16, 2008: The RAB reported today that radio revenues
fell by 1 percent in April, but Wachovia analyst Marci Ryvicker is
saying, "Don't get your hopes up."

The April result was radio's best performance since August 2007, and,
though Ryvicker acknowledges that it was "bettter than expected," she
says, "We are hearing from both private and public companies that May
looks more like March (which was down 8 percent) than like April." She
notes that she did not get a good "read" on April's strength --
adding, "strength being relative, as -1 percent is much better than
the mid-single-digit declines that we have primarily seen since last
August)."

Ryvicker is keeping her radio-industry estimate at down 2.5 percent
for 2008, but moving her second-quarter estimate to down 3 percent
from down 4 percent.

Ha! Ha! It's because of all the money/resources wasted on the HD Radio
farce.

Revenues do not decline due to capital expenditures. Revenues decline
because the economy is in a near recession.

Your knowledge of business is so astronomically poor it is a source of
ongoing amazement.

Just as I thought, the HD Alliance and its boosters are already
blaming the failure of HD radio on the recession!

I have no idea what the Alliance thinks. Many HD broadcasters are not part
of it... and its goal is promotional, not to give opinions.

BTW - is your

little, dwindling research staff still laughing?

No, it expanded this year.

HD Radio is to be blamed for radio's recession.

OK...Any facts to back that up?- Hide quoted text -

"Radio: How many people did it take to write that Clear Channel memo?"

"When BainCapital opened the books it revealed the enormous sums of
money and time wasted with HD Radio conversion – at $100K per station....

So, a station is putting less than 1 percent of it's revenue into new and
experimental technology is causing a radio recession?

That is not a fact.... that is the opinion of one ornery programmer from the
Mistake on the Lake who has no engineering or general management or
owenrship experience.

"CLEAR CHANNEL PULLS THE PLUG ON SOME HD RADIO STATIONS"

Yup! No more investments in HD Radio!

The gross revenues for CCU last year was $6 billion. Radio only was about
half that. Over the last 4 years, CCU has converted several hundred stations
to HD.... let's say it is 100 a year... that's $10 million out of $6
billion. In any case, the HD installs are capitalized and depreciated over
multiple years. And capital expenses do not affect revenues at all.

Not in the current economy. Revenues decline across the board because the
economy is sluggish and on the borderline of a recession. Car sales are off
double digits, so by your logic it would be because people are buying space
ships and starcruisers.
