Robert Johnson was a well-respected popular businessman selling Well respected? Surely you jest? He was the butt of all the jokes in the expat community in Chiang Mai and was known to all Thais as "that crazy farang"! wonderful food in Chiang Mai before Kraven came along. Somehow, Kraven The food wasn't all that bad. Would have been a lot better if Johnson had taken into account some basic food hygiene practices. That may have prevented a few outbreaks of food poisoning. convinced the ENTIRE city of Chiang Mai (second largest city in Thailand) to stop buying Robert's products completely, forcing Robert to sell his business. The entire city? Johnson's products were not targeted at Thai people. The products were more suited to western tastes and would only have been bought by Thais who wanted to be seen to be living a western lifestyle. Most of the Thai people I know have yet to be convinced that western food is better than Thai food. Having tried Thai food myself, I can see why. I reckon you need to figure in the food poisoning outbreaks as a prime factor in the sales decline! Kraven did such a good job convincing 1,600,000 people that Robert's products (or Robert himself) were no good I wonder how one person manages to convince over a million and a half people that a particular product is no good? Take over the newspapers? The TV and radio stations? Send out flyers to every home? Strange that I never heard of a foreign takeover of the media in Northern Thailand! Now that would have made the news worldwide. After all, a bunch of Thais taking over a few city blocks recently managed to attract worldwide media attention. No, I think it was Robert Johnson himself, with all his weird antics, who convinced the people of Chiang Mai, Thailand that his products were no good. so he had to sell his recipes, all his food production machines, delivery trucks, etc., for less than the price of a used car. Food production machines?? What rot! Since when does a row of Thai women working at a long bench constitute a "machine"?? I notice you used the plural in "delivery trucks". Since when does one beat up old truck deserve pluralising?? Anyway, he did well out of the sale. After all, his truck, the long bench, the tureens and a few grinders weren't worth all that much anyway. Note, the women weren't included in the "machinery" sale! He even convinced Robert's neighbors to dump all their garbage in Robert's yard, Yes, Asian people do that to those for whom they have lost all respect! Robert Johnson, through his alcoholism and subsequent abuse of Thai citizens, offended his neighbours and was the cause of his own problems. forcing Johnson to have to install five high security cameras around his property. Johnson's neighbours hated him and he knew this. It was Johnson's fear of retribution that forced him to have to install security cameras. I don't know how he did this, but he sure is a bully. If you don't know, why assume? To be fair, a little logic, a whole load of common sense, and some knowledge of Robert Johnson should make it rather easy to figure out! In this instance, Robert Johnson was his own worst enemy. Krypsis |
