Was it "Fascism" in Hawaii when the state demanded public water use restrictions because the Dole plant was using huge amounts of water to process pineapples? Well, you bring up a complex issue... Without taking sides, let me point out that, although it "sounds bad" that they are asking the 'public' to reduce water usage for Dole, please remember that Dole is a MAJOR employer that provides jobs to the...PUBLIC. Finally, please realize that Dole or no Dole, Hawaii has virtually no natural resources and that they have to bring in EVERY DROP of oil to make the electricity to run the municipal water processing plants -- so water conservation, Dole or not, is probably a good idea. |
