Nothing happens in a vacuum. This guy was crazy for years, something put him over the edge last fall. He went from "Alice in Wonderland" to "Full Metal Jacket" in whiplash inducing time. What was the catalyst? Well, he may -not- have been "crazy for years". By all current accounts, he was more or less "normal" -- good student, good grades, participated in extracurricular activities like band. Then he got on drugs and everything seemed to go down hill from there. So maybe drugs is the answer to your "catalyst" question. |

AT&T and Verizon deserve airwaves more than you do. This is a power gram. There is tons of unused spectrum. Genachowski must be collared. "Las Vegas — Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski reiterated his position that the U.S. faces a "spectrum crunch" and said that if the agency gets the Congressional go-ahead it could reclaim wireless spectrum from TV broadcasters and auction it within two years. Genachowski, in a speech at the Consumer Electronics Show here Friday, said mobile broadband was critical to fueling the country's economic growth and keeping it globally competitive. "The consumer electronics industry is going wireless... We need to free up more spectrum," Genachowski said. "Unleashing mobile spectrum is at the top of the FCC's 2011 agenda." He added, "We could be in a position, if Congress acts, to auction this spectrum in the next year or two and get that on the market... Every day we have a delay we'll have a cost to the U.S. in terms of our global competitiveness." He called wireless spectrum "the oxygen that sustains our mobile devices," adding, "This invisible infrastructure is the backbone of a growing percentage of our economy and our lives." -multichannel |

Some "designer" drugs can cause organic changes in the brain; witness "The Addict Who Froze" (or similar name) on PBS several years ago. (a botched batch of a 'designer' drug killed a certain type of brain cell, inducing a severe, incurable case of Parkinson's in the "lucky" drug user). 1) He [Loughner] appeared to be a relatively clean-cut kid. 2) He started taking drugs. 3) Everything (grades, friends, social interactions, etc) went to hell right after that. Coincidence? NOT! |

As for "increased surveillance," no thanks. I'd rather take a chance defending my family from the occasional violently insane person than institute a million-strong army of "watchers" deciding if our every move is "approved" by our masters or not. Then we need to screen people carefully when they wish to buy offensive weapons. No instant background check BS. |

Well, that's putting sort of a fine point on it. Who knows what drugs Loughner was taking? I don't know. YOU don't know. Hippie drugs don't do that to people. a) You don't have a clue what drugs Loughner was taking, "hippie" or otherwise. b) Whatever he was taking, how do you know it wasn't contaminated, adulterated or chemically botched up? How do you know when young Jared started taking drugs? From all the media reporting. He started out high school with good grades, friends, extracurricular activities. So, according to his peers and former friends, it would seem to be in Junior or Senior year of H.S. that he experienced a major (down hill) change in his life style. |

However, whether she is brain dead or not, do you really think anyone will notice a difference? I mean, other than her family and friends? Haven't all politicians only been reduced to bad jokes? Since they have stopped representing the will of the majority, what credibility should they be granted? NONE, in my book ... Regards, JS |
