changes in the brain; witness "The Addict Who Froze" (or similar name)
on PBS several years ago. (a botched batch of a 'designer' drug killed a
certain type of brain cell, inducing a severe, incurable case of
Parkinson's in the "lucky" drug user).

1) He [Loughner] appeared to be a relatively clean-cut kid.
2) He started taking drugs.
3) Everything (grades, friends, social interactions, etc) went to hell
right after that.

Fentanyl. That bad batch of Fentanyl led to some very important
neurological discoveries. Fentanyl is in the domain of the junkie.

Hippie drugs don't do that to people. How do you know when young Jared
started taking drugs?

Well, that's putting sort of a fine point on it. Who knows what drugs
Loughner was taking? I don't know. YOU don't know.

a) You don't have a clue what drugs Loughner was taking, "hippie" or
otherwise.
b) Whatever he was taking, how do you know it wasn't contaminated,
adulterated or chemically botched up?

How do you know when young Jared started taking drugs?

From all the media reporting. He started out high school with good
grades, friends, extracurricular activities. So, according to his peers
and former friends, it would seem to be in Junior or Senior year of H.S.
that he experienced a major (down hill) change in his life style.
