There is currently one for auction on Ebay--but I emailed some questions
to the seller and got some very strange responses.....buyer beware...

I am also in the market to purchase same---

I second the Grouper here that suggested EBay. You may like to consider
buying it from EBay offering in Europe as it is more frequent there than
here (US). Some of the units there are in mint condition indeed. Slightly
risky, but it worked for me.

Is the radio worth the trouble? Well, there is something hedonistic about
this series (the 600, and 650), that is rather difficult to explain, and is
simply not there in the 800 series. My 2 cents.

Please let me know if you have any question.

Best of luck.

The Sat 800 is a Lextronics/Drake dev't, while those old ones were
engineered in Germany. In other words, they can't have that much to do
with each other (apart from the form factor).

Stephen:

I think that had the Sat800 been made with more care regarding the material,
finishing and the audio, it would have been a superb radio. Personally, I
am ready to pay an additional $150 (over its current EBay price of around
$350), and get this extra attention to details. However, I am not a
production engineer, and do not know whether this is in the realm of
possibilities (technically and commercially) or not. My other 2 cents.

Best of luck.

The Grundig 650 is a great looking radio, and I've heard others say that the
sound quality is wonderful. I'd be in the market for one but I greatly
enjoy my Sat 800 for my portable (or rather semi-portable) listening.

I looked at the offering on eBay. Is it just me or do the numerical keys
look really dirty?

CF,

There are a few Grundig Satellit 600/650s on eBay.DE (Germany)

- - - http://listings.ebay.de/

Some of these Grundig Satellit Radios are near mint or have been
"Tuned-Up" (Re-Manufactured) to Factory Standards and are
worth the extra price for the assured 'quality' that you receive.

* Catagory "Weltempfänger" [World Receiver]
