snip I would still like to know for the reason for this massive discount. It doesn't seem to be replicated by other mercahnts. Perhaps somebody at Amazon made their Irish Coffee just a bit too Irish. JIAW I think it was just a case of they had several in the warehouse that weren't moving and they decided to cut the price and dump them before year end. My guess is the SW100s is a better seller because it's smaller, and has more or less comparable features and performance at about the same (regular) price. Mine came in yesterday. I haven't had it long enough to make up my mind about it but preliminary results lead me to think I'm still going to be taking my 7030 system on camping trips, and on vacations when I'm driving or can ship it ahead. But to be fair, I have been using it in the house, and I haven't hooked it up to my "Doty style" antenna, so I'm getting RFI from the computer network and all the other gizmos that led me to put an antenna a couple hundred feet away from the house. |

That price did seem way too low, which really makes me think that even if
that $149.00 price was dealer cost, that the going price of $399 is one heck of a mark up for consumer electronics. Either that or Amazon took a loss on a small quantity of them, which doesn't make sense either. Why didn't they just put them on Ebay? They could have got more than 149 !! -mike "Jenni_is_a_Whore" wrote in message news:wrYJb.4371$zf.3483@okepread05... I accept Paypal, cashiers check/money orders. I have to say that this is probably the first time in my life that I stumbled on a deal (or mistake or whatever it was) like this. In the case of unuaual discounts or deals, I seem to get to the "bargin bin" right after the last unit has been snatched up. Such is my luck. I would still like to know for the reason for this massive discount. It doesn't seem to be replicated by other mercahnts. Perhaps somebody at Amazon made their Irish Coffee just a bit too Irish. I agree--$275 is better than $399--and anyone who still wants one should probably consider it. I just hope JIAW is getting a small commission on the 75% markup. |

I don't know but I bet it overloads on a good antenna. The front end anyway on my SW100 does. When it comes with an active antenna, that means it's not really sensitive enough on its own, as well. It is small, and for mid-difficulty signals probably pretty good. -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |

The special antenna that comes with the Sony ICF-SW07 actually tunes in
synch with the SW tuning (and is amplified). If you haven't used it yet, then you have yet to see what this unit can really do. -- Stinger "Ron Hardin" wrote in message ... Mark S. I almost bought the radio at $149 , but then got a large car repair bill at
the same time so passed it up. With the nice special antenna device with it, I wonder if I missed a good radio. Missed opportunity. I suspect Amazon and other large companies make occasional pricing mistakes like this and the lucky ones get the deal. Chuck Gulker wrote in message ... For Sale: just received brand new Sony ICF-SW07 portable shortwave radio. I only opened the outside shipping box to verify contents. I have never opened the Sony box (picture of the Sony package available upon request). Save about a hundred dollars over the current lowest Internet price. $ 275.00 delivered to your door. I will pay shipping and insurance. E-mail me privately if you are interested in purchasing this new radio. The ICF-SW07 is packed with features and performance. Frequency coverage is 150 to 29999 kHz to include all longwave, medium wave (AM) and shortwave frequencies. FM stereo is provided to the earphone and line out jacks on the side of the radio. The dual conversion shortwave circuit supports 1 kHz readout for precise tuning via the up/down buttons, scanning or 80 user-defined alphanumeric memories. A new feature called SW Station Call Tuning (VOA/BBC/DW/Other) automatically chooses frequencies used in your time zone from the removable ROM data module. The ROM is accessable through a door on the bottom of the radio. Sony offers an optional updated ROM from time to time. Other refinements include: synchronous detection, SSB single sideband reception, tone switch, lock, 24 hour clock timer, sleep timer, variable attenuator, external antenna jack and backlit display. This radio can operate with the cover closed. Supplied accessories include: carry case, AN-LP2 active loop antenna, Sony Wave Handbook, AC adapter and stereo earphones. Requires two AA cells (not supplied). Silver and gray case. Only 5.4x1.3x3.6 inches 9 oz (137x33x91 mm 257 g) when closed. |

It's 65 feet long with an aiken (aka Norlin or Applied Communications) preamp that can be remotely switched in or out. But considering the weight of the sw07, I think testing it out will wait until I have time to create a patch cord to connect to the wall jack with RG-316e. |

I think there will be a _lot_ of SW07's for sale at "bargain basement"
prices during the next few weeks. I typed it on the ebay search and saw just one of them. Not much of a picture. Anyone got a pic of it, doesn't look like it should cost that much, that's crazy. If I were going to spend that much on that, I's throw in a couple hundred dollars extra (if that) and get a 'real' radio like the Hammarlund HQ180 or SP-600-JX :-D |
