They said 'secondary' is on 550, which I'd imagine would mean 5.500MHz in USB,
am I right? I haven't really monitored this type of traffic before, but it's
not bad.

Nice crisp audio, especially with the phones on.:-) They're still on 6.586 in
USB as I type.

If you listen closely (use headphones) you may hear something like "San
Francisco Radio" or New york or many other places. Planes contact centrally
located stations like San Francisco or New York to report their status and
get weather information and occaisionally some emergency traffic ! Keep
tuned .

I will Maximus, a lot of time I don't like to hear constant 'voice' as I'm
typing or reading, so this is about perfect.

Dedicate the 398 or find one just for monitoring air traffic and yes I just
hear a man wayyyyyy out there say Nebraska? Is that possible? Nebraska? I've
already heard New york quite often.

Theyt're using three different frqs 6597/5500/ 3455 with the first being the
main one it seems. That's the one I'm monitiring. Very interesting. :-) All
on my DX 398 hooked to some wire hangind down (sloping) at a 45degree angle
into the shack. Not too bad. :-)

Correct. 5550 is a frequency used by CAR-A area (Carribean) stations. The
CFL doesn't show anything on 6587, but shows 6586 as AFI-4 and CAR-B areas.
